How to improvise gin & bitter lemon
Well, we haven't got quite so far as to
improvise the gin. You need a bottle of gin, a miniature will do. But how do
you get tonic in the bush? Like many things here you have to improvise with
what you've got.
So, I mix:
- One cup of lovely cold (filtered) creek
water; with
- A couple of generous splashes of lemon
juice (concentrated), about two teaspoonsful; and- A scant teaspoon of baking soda.
Add the baking soda gradually and stir until your 'tonic' is as fizzy as you'd like it.
If you add too much baking soda it can
start to taste like Andrews Liver Salts, if so, add a splash more lemon. If
it's not fizzy enough, add a little more lemon and baking soda. You can go on forever with this...
Add your mix to your gin and hey
presto, you have bush gin and tonic. It's not quite
the same as a lovely splash of Schweppes and a slice but it's
not half bad.
